Recently the CP's intrepid reporter, galdosd, filed a FOIA request with the Department of Defense, asking for certain documents relating to Iraq, specifically "all records on the program or operation established at some point in 2001, 2002, or 2003, known as a 'special access program' or 'SAP,' and specifically identified often by the label 'COPPER GREEN.'" We at CP felt that there was a strong possibility of the request being turned away on the basis of national security. Well, we've now received a reply from the DoD.
The reply is from Robert P. Richardson, the chief of FOIA at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

We were surprised that we were not just turned down immediately, but a corporate attorney I know with experience doing FOIAs explained that the response was merely that of a clerk. The clerk has no way of knowing what our request entails, so we will just have to wait for a response from the DoD.
